Western Digital is seeking a Field Applications Engineer to join our customer engineering support team. We are looking for candidates that can work in a fast-growing and dynamic environment and are able to build strong relationships with customers.


As a Field Applications Engineer, you will be part of a high performing team supporting a key cloud account. Candidate will be responsible for leading and managing sustaining activities. You will be working with customers and cross functional teams on driving customer quality initiatives and resolving sustaining issues to maintain WDC’s best in class in quality. This includes failure analysis and debug of field issues, coordinating quality meetings, driving sustaining escalations.


Candidates for this role needs to be highly motivated, self-sufficient, and demonstrate good leadership. Individuals should possess excellent technical and communication skills, able to articulate technical issues and requirements. Occasional domestic or international travel. This position is full-time and located in our San Jose, CA headquarters.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage sustaining activities, issues, and escalations.
  • Lead and coordinate customer factory audits.
  • Work with factory and quality teams on preparing customer deliverables such as monthly yield and quality reports.
  • Manage and track integration and field metrics.
  • Understand customer quality tracking processes and metrics.
  • Lead regular quality meetings with customer.
  • Represent and advocate customer needs and priorities to internal teams.
  • Provide technical support and documentation.
  • Debug and 1st level failure analysis.

REQUIRED:


  • BS or MS in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience in related field.
  • More than three years’ experience in a technical customer-facing role.
  • Familiar with cloud storage architectures and concepts such as erasure coding, distributed file systems, object storage, Linux OS.
  • Working knowledge of HDD/SSDs and SATA/NVME interface.
  • Experience with debugging, analyzing and resolving storage related issues.
  • Experience with protocol analyzers a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Experience with creating failure analysis reports and 8D reports.
