Western Digital is seeking a Senior Income Tax Manager in Irvine or Milpitas, California that will be responsible primarily for managing the international portions of the income tax provision. Additional responsibilities include assisting with certain aspects of the international portion of the U.S. income tax compliance process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage GAAP income tax accounting models including deferred accounting, payable accounting, tax account roll-forwards, and calculation of the effective tax rate
  • Manage and maintain the calculation of the foreign income tax provision
  • Manage and maintain tax models for forecasting future GAAP and non-GAAP foreign tax expense, effective tax rates, and foreign cash taxes
  • Determine tax reserves (FIN 48 & FAS 5) and related disclosures, including monitoring the tax environment to ensure that the tax reserves are reasonable
  • Responsible for assessing and determining income tax accounting consequences related to the adoption of GAAP accounting pronouncements, purchase accounting, indefinite reinvestment assertion, valuation allowance, interim reporting, etc.  
  • Provide assistance with the tax department to ensure compliance with the requirements of Section 404 of Sarbanes Oxley
  • Assist with review, analysis, research and resolution of international tax issues
  • Manage and assist in certain international areas of U.S. income tax compliance
  • Keep up to date with tax legislation, SEC Regulations, and GAAP changes, practice and global developments
  • Collaborate with tax compliance, tax planning, tax controversy and transfer pricing teams in connection with the above responsibilities
  • Supervises and develops tax department staff
  • Build and foster strong cross-functional relationships within and outside of the tax department

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA license required.  MST or MBT (Master of Science in Taxation or Master in Business Taxation) degree preferred, but not required
  • Ideal candidate will have 10+ years of combined tax experience which includes some mix of experience in a major CPA firm and in a corporate tax department
  • Minimum of 6 years of international tax experience
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax laws and regulations and capability of application in new situations
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in U.S. GAAP accounting for income taxes and internal controls
  • Significant understanding of core international tax concepts including income sourcing, expense apportionment & allocation, E&P, foreign tax credit, GILTI, FDII, Section 965, and Subpart F
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to adapt and get things done in a complex and fast-based environment
  • Experience with OneSource Tax Provision a plus
