The Key Account Sales Engineering Senior Director is a very high-profile, challenging and exciting role within Western Digital.   We are looking for highly motivated individuals that can manage a cross functional teams driving the technical discussions and activities with for a key account for all of Western Digital.   This position is responsible for establishing strategic technology relationships with key customer stake holders, proposing joint technology partnerships, capturing design wins for new products, providing customer strategic input into the various business units completing product qualifications and provide being providing the technical escalation point  sustaining leadership for a key account.    It will require executive level communications to build bridges between our key customers technical and business leadership and our business units.   Individuals should have a creative ability to see opportunities that others may not, identifying short-term and long-term opportunities that span multiple functions and business units at both Western Digital and the customer.   Within Western Digital, a successful Sales Engineering Sr Director can identify opportunities for Western Digital is an expert on their customer and is the “Voice of the Customer” within Western Digital products and technology.

 

Internally, the Sales Engineering Sr Director works directly with Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, all Business Units, and the CTO office as needed, developing and driving the technical engagement strategy for their account.  A Sales Engineering Director will also manage the customer product qualification and sustaining teams for their customer, acting as an advisor and escalation path for their team. 

 

Candidates for this role need to be highly motivated, self-sufficient, and possess strong leadership attributes. Excellent technical and communication skills required; must be able to understand and articulate storage technical requirements (both Flash and HDD) and issues as well as problem statements and value propositions to any type of audience. Occasional domestic or international travel will be required. The position is full-time and will be co-located near the particular customer’s primary site.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the overall strategic technical relationships with the customer
    • Identifies key influencers, develops and maintains relationships and dialogues
    • Leads and coordinates a variety of technical engagements, bringing the appropriate Western Digital team members as subject matter experts
  • Understands the customer’s architectures
    • Maps the customer products, technologies, platforms, architectures and requirements
    • Provide insights on how and where Western Digital can engage
  • Identifies customer’s business and technology trends, pain-points and issues
    • Provide insights on implications and how Western Digital can collaborate or engage
  • Responsible for opportunity identification and opportunity exploitation
    • Drives highly interactive engagements with both the customer and internal to Western Digital
    • Ensures that the qual pipeline is full, ideally expanding Western Digital presence and design-ins
  • Able to creatively see opportunities across multiple dimensions, not just roadmap alignment
    • Scope opportunities, define it, and identify the right Western Digital people to engage as needed
    • Understand and connect across multiple dimensions including directions for the business, technologies, products
    • Identify opportunities beyond products and technologies: collaboration opportunities, relationships, portfolios and bundles
    • Have both a short-term and long-term vision
  • Works closely with sales team to develop the account strategy and maintain the account plan
  • Be the “voice of the customer” inside Western Digital

 

MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage cross functional technical account team for tasks including qualification and sustaining activities; help clear road blocks to ensure team success
  • Manage the resolution of complex issues during qualification and sustaining phase, working with cross functional teams and management as needed
  • Customer escalation point for technical related issues

 

REQUIRED:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience in related field
  • 10+ years’ experience engineering or technical roles with at least five years in a technical customer-facing role;  Systems/Solutions Engineering (SE) experience a plus
  • Familiar with cloud storage architectures and concepts such as erasure coding, distributed file systems, object storage, Linux OS.
  • Working knowledge of HDD/SSDs and SATA/NVME interface.  Knowledge of storage systems a plus
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Experience working and communicating with executives
