As the Director, Employee Relations (ER), Governance, and Policy, you will play a critical role in the transformation of Human Resources at Western Digital into a high impact, talent-focused organization. You will develop and directly lead a US based team of 4 ER Specialists and a matrixed global community of practice focused on building world class Employee & Manager Advocacy, People Policy and Framework.  You will draw from resources from throughout the company and a knowledge base around the world.   Additionally, you will grow complex investigative abilities including code of conduct, workplace violence prevention, and support the legal team in their casework and filings, drawing from current expertise in the US and expanding it to the indirect, global, team. 


Reporting to the Sr Director of Americas HR Delivery, you partner closely with Business Facing HR, Employment & Labor Legal, and Ethics and Compliance.  The output of this team has direct exposure to the CHRO and indirectly to the Board of Directors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading and developing the Direct and Indirect Teams.
  • Continuously evaluating and evolving our HR policies and practices to not only assure compliance with local labor statutes, but also to meet our commitment to corporate social responsibility, and to address the evolving needs and interests of our employees
  • Providing consultation and leadership for compliance and employee relations issues
  • Partnering with stakeholders on complex investigations, legal and employment filings, policy and governance.
  • Establishing a global policy governance framework
  • Creating and executing change management strategies and action plans and helping people to draw motivation from change.
  • Partnering with Business Facing HR to build and develop management capability for fair management practices in support of proactive positive employee relations.
  • Partnering with our HR Operations team to identify and resolve issues inhibiting employees and managers from obtaining effective self-service for basic inquiries.
  • Play a role in sustaining and further developing an innovative and inclusive workplace culture where diversity is seen as a strength and growing our culture.
  • Provide and understand rigorous data analysis and reporting solutions & use data to anticipate issues, identify opportunities and design and improve solutions that minimize reactive work.

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with relevant certifications
  • 12 – 15+ years of experience in Human Resources or relevant experience with 6 or more years leading/managing investigation and/or governance teams
  • Demonstrates an inclusive leadership style with an emphasis on results and developing high performing team members
  • Experience working and navigating globally
  • Demonstrated success in building ER systems and driving process improvements
  • Minimal US Travel.  Based in the US with many stakeholders across the globe, with a concentration in Asia. 
  • Based in Irvine or Santa Clara, CA

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree
  • Electronics industry & manufacturing experience
  • Experience with Labor Relations, Industrial Relations or related
  • Process Improvement or other experience building structure and organizational systems

  • Advanced written and oral communication, excellent interpersonal and relational skills, with the ability to quickly develop trust and confidence with a variety of people and personalities, at all levels within an organization
  • Agility and continual learning with personal resilience and an ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Ability to make clear, logical decisions based on facts, taking into consideration the big picture, long and short-term effects, and exercising sound judgment when handling complaints, confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Understanding and ability to communicate about Federal, State and Local regulations; ADA and Leave of Absence Topics (If necessary)
