Join Western Digital as a Cost Planning Analyst and you will be responsible for understanding and optimizing product costs.  You will gain expertise into how all products in the company are built and tested, how our supply chain works, how the products are developed and qualified, and how this transpires in the underlying enterprise systems.  At the same time, you will develop an extensive network, as the role serves as a key interlock between the manufacturing sites, global ops, engineering teams, BU finance and corporate FP&A.


Additionally, it is an exciting time as we are enhancing our ERP.  You will have the ability to influence the next generation of cost planning, from a theoretical and implementation perspective.  This role provides a path to managerial experience as well.

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide monthly near term forecast, and quarterly strategic forecast for indirect product costs and manufacturing variances (OCOGS).
  • Support business partners with financial decision making – return on investment, discounted cash flows, tradeoff analysis, cost reduction what-ifs, etc.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements to the forecast, the standard cost, and the numerous metrics and reports.
  • Conduct period end actual vs. forecast variance analysis, especially as it relates to manufacturing variances, reserves, and inventory capitalization.
  • Drive standardization across disparate financial practices and consolidation methodologies.
  • Establish and maintain a pulse on the operational risks and opportunities to proactively report deviations to the forecast.
 REQUIRED:
  • Minimum 7 years manufacturing experience (in ops, engineering, or finance), preferably in HDD, semiconductors, or consumer electronic assembly.
  • Passion for knowledge and learning.  An inquisitive mind seeking creative and efficient solutions.
  • High level of complex data analytics required. Must have robust command of Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills. Lead diverse audiences through your multifaceted analysis.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and a dynamic team-player who can work with all personalities and still maintain a sense of calm and good humor under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  MBA or Masters in a science-based discipline preferred.
