Western Digital is looking for a Consumer/Lifestyle Media Relations Manager to play an integral role on our dynamic public relations team. The ideal candidate will be a news-obsessed, trend-focused, always-curious, data-driven media communications manager with experience in the lifestyle category. Collaborating across communications, marketing, engineering and product teams, you will lead programs designed to earn high-profile coverage in national business, consumer and lifestyle outlets to improve awareness and preference for the products and solutions offered by Western Digital’s consumer brands. Domestic or international travel may be required.


  • Act as primary media contact for Western Digital’s consumer brands.
  • Develop and implement media strategies, and drive plans and programs from conception to completion.
  • Be creative and strategic in the development of programs and pitch angles designed to garner high-profile earned media coverage with national business and general lifestyle and pop culture media outlets
  • Play key role in planning and execution of consumer program activations, media events, satellite media tours, desk side briefings, program implementation
  • Use metrics and analytics to build business case, provide insight
  • Collaborate and communicate with multiple cross-functional teams to align on content and campaigns
  • Support regional teams in providing content for media outreach
  • Develop full range of written materials including press releases, pitches, byline articles, listicles, correspondence and reports
  • Work with spokespeople in media interviews, manage their appearances and contribute appropriately
  • Identify trends within the media landscape, sharing them with the team and recommending pivot strategies based on these trends


  • 6+ years of agency or in-house PR/communications experience working with consumer lifestyle media
  • Strong, reliable, current relationships with consumer media and influencers. Knowledge of TV, radio, and print outlets as well as knowledge about paid media costs
  • Excellent creative writing, editing, communication and presentation skills. News writing knowledge and background.
  • Possess strong understanding of the editorial calendar, current events, pop culture, seasonal and celebrity trends, etc. to effectively and proactively contribute to story angle development that is strategic and timely.
  • Energetic, creative, positive and proactive. Works with a sense of urgency. Manages projects requiring the position to direct, lead, influence and negotiate with others.
  • Adaptable, and excited to work in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work with a large number of stakeholders and manage deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Represent the company appropriately to members of the media and other outside organizations
  • Previous experience managing agencies is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field.
